Art Book Publishing, A Growing Industry.
Art book publishing is a separate industry wherein art books which are written by authors are printed in large volume and sold. All the time, the goal is for this information to reach as many people as possible. For these materials to receive the applause of the people, they have to be published and be available to the common man. Those who want to do art book publishing cannot have money-making as their only motive. They should also have good aesthetic tastes and a fairly good idea of art and culture. The editorial board of the publishing house should have editors who are very good at selection of the material. The publishing and printing of a book should also bring commercial returns to the publishing house.
Art book publishing encourages new artistes and writers in the field of art to write on a new angle in the same subject. The editor should be in a position to test the pulse of the public because monetary benefits matter a great deal when you are trying to withstand the competition and remain in the business. Works are generally submitted by the artists or writers for approval of the publishing house. This happens when the writers are new to the field. They have to enter into an agreement with the publishers in terms of royalty or payment. Established authors in the field have agents separately for them who do the job of marketing a book to many printing houses and can do a better settlement. In this case, if the author has a fan group for him he will have a greater say in deciding the terms of royalty and payment.
The next stage in the art book publishing is layout and designing. The book cover has to be designed to make it look attractive. They have in-house artists or outsource the designing work to freelance artists to design the book cover and do illustrations as well. This is a very important step in art book publishing. These layouts and design are the main sources of attraction which create a curiosity in the reader; this leads to a decision to actually buy the book rather than just flip through the pages.
After this stage, the material has to be typed, proof reading has to be done and the material has to be fine tuned to suit the requirements of the people. The final stage will be estimating the volume of sales and printing that number of books. Books which are printed in volumes by art book publishing have to be marketed properly. The network has to be set in a planned manner. Sales agents and marketing persons can be appointed on a commission-fee basis and the books can be distributed to all retail book stores. Based on the response from the public, further editions can be planned. Literacy campaigns are gaining importance even in developing countries and hence the need for books in schools and universities are increasing day by day.
