Book Publishing Process

The Book Publishing Process Is A Complex One

How simple life would be if we could go back to the simple ways of publishing. Well since this is just wishful thinking, it would be better to get a fair idea of the book publishing process as it exists today. Without the support of software and embedded solutions, printing and publishing cannot even be thought of today. Whether you are looking for an advanced check on the grammar and syntax of your writing or if you are thinking of getting all the pictures in your book for children, well arranged, you have no option but to rely on computers.

As the book publishing process is long and arduous one, there are many people who fight shy of the whole process and go back to what they were doing after facing a lot of hardships in the process. It is not as easy as it looks. Most people think that if you could write a book (in fact, it does not have to be a very good one) there would not be much of a problem in finding a publisher. Just as it is difficult to find a suitable publisher, it is equally difficult trying to understand the entire process of publishing a book or a magazine.

While the design and layout phase of the book publishing process is on its way to completion, the publisher starts thinking of the sales strategy. If he has a book of a very popular author, he might not have to rack his brains at all. On the other hand, if the author is good, but fairly unknown, then the steps that he has to take after publishing or even while the publishing is in progress, will have to be well thought out. Apart from the marketing strategy, he will have to think very carefully about the price at which he can actually sell the book. The place of release of the book is also equally important.

There is one step in the book publishing process that has to be thought of and that is the time when a unique number is assigned to the book. The International Standard Book Number or the ISBN as it is usually referred to, identifies any book that is published. Along with this, there is a barcode that you will find on the back cover of any book. These two unique identifications help a person locate a book fairly easily. Besides being unique identifiers, these two numbers are recorded so that, no other book can be assigned these numbers subsequently.

Once this procedure is done, the book publishing process is practically nearing its end. The marketing and the distribution/sale of the book follow next. This is usually taken care of by specialized agencies who would like to go all out to ensure that the book is a roaring success since the entire profit is at stake.
